Introduction to NRIA-DFO
The National Resource Industry Associations or "NRIA" is an informal affiliation of national resource industries, as represented by their respective associations, and DFO representatives. It exists for the purposes of advancing collaborative efforts that focus primarily on improving effectiveness of fish habitat management and creating efficiencies in the regulatory processes under the federal Fisheries Act and related legislation administered by DFO.
The NRIA and DFO recognize that many activities and projects that may impact fisheries habitat are common across resource industries, and that NRIA members must constantly balance protection of fish and fish habitat resources with other social, environmental and economic objectives that Canadians consider important, all in the context of comprehensive provincial and federal regulatory and policy frameworks.
